RESULTS FOR TRIAL AT DAVID ERWIN’S FARM AVAILABLE HERE

Trial at Cunningburn on Friday 24th August (See below for results)

The weather had gone a bit variable after seemingly months of sunshine and high temperatures… and that’s exactly what we were hoping for. In past years it had become impossible to provide a nice, squidgy impassable climb on a barley stubble hill. The mud has sometimes been dry and presented no real challenge to our hardy competitors. However, prior to our event at David Erwin’s farm at Cunningburn, the heavens opened and down came the necessary moisture. Excellent!

And so we got going.  3 trials hills followed by a timed grass slalom. First out were Mike Armstrong and Zak in the TD. Both were to drive and this was Zak’s first competitive event. A great debut and we hope it is just the first of many to come. (Check out Zac’s video here: 4001BF57-1887-4878-9925-C2AE142A52FE

The hill was slippy though at that stage and became easier as the ground dried out. Bailey Thompson showed his usual expertise and walked up the hill with ease. As indeed did Mark Francis, making it all look so easy. There were other battles going on in other shared cars too, with Mark Lemon and daughter Katie putting the immaculate green Midget through its paces. Wallace and Ben McKee gave the roarty Micra its usual thrashing while the former Malcolm McQueen MX5, now piloted by Harold McClelland and Susan O’Neill, found its way nicely to the top without the need for its enormous spot lamps. Mark Lemon won the day with a superb drive and clean sheet in an MG, of course  Well done Mark. Not far behind were Bailie Thompson, followed by Katie Lemon and Ben McKee.

The slalom proved once again to be enormously popular, with top honours once again going to our reigning champion, Bailie Thompson from a hard charging Wallace McKee. Star of the show for many though was the sight of Ben’s granny, Claire McCully giving the poor little Micra the beans for all she was worth. An abiding image to keep in the memory

A terrific evening’s entertainment and a real social success. All we needed was a barbecue.

Thanks to all our marshals and officials: Carol, Stephen, Trevor and Gordon and, of course, to David Erwin for the use of his fields.
